Training course “Democracy in Europe: Patterns of Inclusion and Exclusion”

We are looking for two Romanian participants for the following training course:

Training course Democracy in Europe: Patterns of Inclusion and Exclusion taking place in Aghveran, Armenia from 29th of October to 5th of November.

The Training Course "Democracy in Europe: Patterns of Inclusion and Exclusion" uses the Betzavta method to raise awareness of our own behaviors that are exclusive and inclusive, within the context of societal issues based on these values, for example the Refugee crisis in Europe.

The Betzavta method offers an experiential way to learn about democracy through practice, challenging the way we see ourselves in a decision making process. The various principles and concepts behind democracy, such as equality, freedom, and inclusion are examined both in concept and in practice. The way in which the principles are applied allows for the individual to reflect on his/her role in a group and connects the personal with the political, the theory with the practice, and the doing with the being.

In addition to an examination of the current situation, the experiential and interactive activities in this training course shed light on our own practices of inclusion and exclusion within a small group. Perhaps it is easier to hold up our values when speaking in theory, but in actuality, there are far deeper and more complex dilemmas in ourselves to discover. This discovery allows for a greater empathy, as it no longer puts a conflicting line between our moral positions. It allows for an examination of needs, especially in a conflict, so as to realize that my need in one situation might be yours in another.

Training course “From new challenges to innovative contributions: using online tools to promote exchange and understanding”

We are looking for two Romanian participants for the following training course:

Training course “From new challenges to innovative contributions: using online tools to promote exchange and understanding” taking place in Ommen, the Netherlands from 31th of July to 8th of August.

The idea originates from the hugely successful ‘Human of New York’ page, which has gathered over 16 million likes on Facebook by now. It presents street portraits and interviews, collected on the streets of New York. With the initiative, the subscribers of the page can read short stories of people they would perhaps normally never speak to. It offers a unique insight into the lives of others, broadening your own viewpoint. The power of social media is that it can reach a lot of people quickly, and it offers an easy space for interaction afterwards as well. Moreover, as most young people are active on social networks, it is good way to reach them. In this training course the youth workers will learn the basics of publishing such articles, including interviewing people, writing the story and shooting matching photographs on the street. The focus would be on subjects with a particular minority background, with a certain interest to tell their story. By the end of the training, every participating city should have a page. In case a page of a city already exists, we count on that the forces can be joined. In the weeks after the training, the youth workers should transfer the skills to the youngsters in their organizations, creating more impact and ensuring a sustainable flow of articles on the pages.

This is an Erasmus + event, therefore the food and accommodation are fully covered by the programme! Transportation costs covered 85%. Participant countries: Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, United Kingdom

We are looking for two Romanian participants for each of the following training courses (four in total):

1. Training Course "Empowering youngsters to improve their influence on decision making processes" which will take place in Ommen, the Netherlands from 19 - 26 August (including arrival and departure day). This training aims to equip the youth worker with the right tools, to guide youth in order to be active in democratic structures to voice their needs. The training will promote the start of a debating club within youth organizations, ran by youth. Via this club, youth will be united to discuss their opinions and to advocate for their wishes. To motivate and to empower them, we will explore the existing structures in each country and offer workshops on debating (persuasion techniques etc.) and philosophical backgrounds. To pitch their ideas and to advocate for them, we will explore the possibilities of social media in particular. The best practices will be discussed and we will gain inspiration from representatives of organizations like youth political parties, the national youth council and debating clubs. Clear working plans will be made for each organization and after the implementation it will be evaluated, resulting in a quick guide with best practices, usable for other organizations as well. The working methods are non-formal, with brain storms, discussions, expert input, role plays and energizers.

2. Training Course "Conflict Management Tools for Youth Workers" which will take place in Ommen, the Netherlands from 27 August - 3 September. The political crises in Europe and bordering countries (such as recent conflicts in Syria, Gaza, Egypt and Ukraine), add another dimension to youth work. The crises ‘abroad’ also have a strong impact on the youth in our countries, where many minorities from those countries live. For example during the war in Gaza (2014) mostly Arab youth went to the streets to protest, sometimes leading to hate speech. And most recently some highly educated youngsters are going to Syria to fight. Youth workers hear the voice of youth first hand, and should play a calm, yet assertive role to transform possible violent inclinations: engaging in dialogues, looking for common ground and transforming communication processes. Last but not least: youth among themselves need guidance in conflicts, nowadays being under extra pressure because of the financial crisis.

Food and accommodation costs are fully covered by Erasmus + programme.
Travel cost are up to 275 Euros/participant and you will have to cover 30% of this cost. Participation fee to be paid to the hosting organization 35 Euros.
